About

Don’t be caught without a voice.

Voice Week is an experimental writing challenge to help us stretch our versatility in voice and tone. Each Voice Week participant writes five versions of the same story – from five different points of view. Then, September 22 through 26, we post, compare, sharpen, and grow.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Pick one thing to write about. You can pick a prompt here, or make up your own.
  2. Write five separate pieces from that same prompt. The basics of each story should be identical, but the person writing that story—their accent, colloquialisms, and point of view—should be different each time. You can write from different genders, ages, time periods, species, and more. Whomever you want. Dig deep into who each person is, and make their voice clear and unique.
  3. Cut each piece down to about 100 words. You won’t get disqualified or anything if it runs to 142 words, but remember that with five pieces from each of us, there’s going to be a lot of reading! Plus, your work will be more streamlined if you trim it down.
  4. Post one piece each day the week of September 22 through 26 – the first piece on Monday, the second on Tuesday, etc. – and link back to the Voice Week homepage. I’ll reblog your pieces so they’ll all show up in one place.
  5. Read, learn, comment! Subscribe to get others’ Voice Week pieces by email.

Hey I was just wondering how to link back. I’ve done it before with different formats but not with this one

I’ve been making my rounds to each of the blogs and reblogging the pieces. So you shouldn’t have to do anything but post your piece, as long as you’re on the Voice Writers list. Sorry, but – which one are you? I don’t recognize the name Caszam, and you didn’t leave a URL in your comment.
