What’s Voice Week?

Check out the About page.

When is Voice Week?

Monday, September 22, through Friday, September 26.

What will happen to Inspiration Monday?

InMon will be postponed during Voice Week and the week after. Prompts will still be posted the week before Voice Week, so you’ll actually have three weeks to get your InMon entry in, instead of just one.

Is this a competition?

No; just a challenge, to help us all stretch as writers. No work will be judged against any other, but everyone is encouraged to comment on each other’s experiments with constructive criticism. And compliments, of course!

What is the prize?

To be announced.

How will you pick the winner?

I’ll use this random number generator and count down from the participants listed on the blogroll. I’ll make sure that person followed all the rules.

I’ll announce the winner Monday, September 29, after Voice Week. That person will have one week to email me their mailing info.

(Legal disclaimer: I reserve the right to change the rules of the prize-giving at any time.)

What if I win, but I don’t want to give you my address?

If you or your parents are freaked out about giving a street address to a stranger online, you can check out my LinkedIn page and the site of the agency I work at to assure yourself I am not a creeper. If you are still unconvinced, I understand completely, but will have to pick someone else for the prize.

What if I don’t write all five pieces?

You’re still free to submit two, three, or four pieces—but you have to submit a total of five to be eligible for the prize.

Do I have to use one of the Voice Week prompts?

Nope, you can write about anything you like: just make sure it’s five different pieces on the same subject.

Can I just use an existing piece of work and rewrite it four times?

Sure; as long as the piece is yours and around 100 words.

Do I have to use a badge?

No, but I’ll love you more if you do.

Do I have to be subscribed to you to enter?

No. But, again; I’ll love you more if you are. : )

Can I submit more than five pieces?

Absolutely. But remember, it won’t increase your chances of winning the prize, since I’m counting from the participants, not from the posts.

Can I start writing my entries now, or do I have to wait until Voice Week?

By all means, start now! I announced the challenge early so everyone will have time to participate. Just don’t post until Voice Week.

I’m on vacation/ super busy that week! Can you move it?

Sorry, no. But you can write your pieces early and set your blog up to post them automatically.

What if my question isn’t answered here?

Leave it in the comments! I’ll get back to you as soon as I can.

I’m lost. How do I post my part 1 on your site? It’s here at http://photovignettes.wordpress.com/2012/10/01/voice-week-shadow-of-a-man-pt-1/

So my question is, does it have to be five different takes on the same scenario, or five different scenarios with the same subject? I don’t know if that makes sense, but for example, if I used flight as my subject, would I do five different pieces such as the p.o.v. of a child flying for the first time, a seasoned traveler, a person who’s afraid to fly, etc, or would it be something like five different takes on an in-flight emergency? I hope that makes sense…

More like the first one; five different takes on the same scenario. Your flight example is a good one. But it’s pretty open to interpretation – so don’t let that hold you back!

        Ok I think I’ve got it….
